A new era for the realm: the website, a one-line server installer, flight and NPCs that talk

Today's update is our biggest yet. Here's what's new.

A website of its own

The server now has a proper home on the web, built around the game rather than next to it.

• Your account in one place: sign up, log in and manage your characters from any browser. Already logged in on the site? Press Play now and you go straight to your characters, with no second login.
• Guilds and friends, synced with the game: join a guild, accept members and send friend requests from the site, and it all reaches the game.
• Rankings, news and events: the top players and guilds, live event timers and everything happening in the world.
• Marketplace: list your items and trade with other players from the browser. The game holds the item safely until the deal is done.
• Coins, VIP, Gacha and Forge: support the server, unlock perks, try your luck, and buy coins with in-game Zen.
• Lorencia from the sky: visitors can fly over Lorencia as a crow and watch the town live. In the game, players see those crows circling above them.
• Play anywhere: play in the browser with nothing to install, or download the Android and Windows apps.
• 31 languages.

A server in one line

Want to run your own world? The new installer sets up the whole thing (game server, website, HTTPS, mail and backups) with a single command and a few questions.

• mu update brings in the latest version, takes a backup first, and goes back by itself if anything goes wrong.
• mu config changes any setting later.
• Admin > Systems on the website switches each optional system on or off, live.
• Already running a hand-made server? mu adopt moves it in, keeping your accounts and characters.

Take to the skies

Wings are no longer just for show. If your character wears wings or a cape, press Z to take off.

• Fly freely over the map. Your wings decide how fast and how high you go.
• Speed mode (X) turns you into a streak across the sky.
• Flying costs mana. Run out, or take too many hits, and you fall, and a long fall hurts.
• Fight in the air: cast your skills, take on other flyers, and heal and buff your friends.
• Monsters only notice you when you fly close. You can't fly through gates, ride a mount or pick up items while airborne, and you can only land outdoors.

NPCs that actually talk back

The people of MU have something to say. Walk up to an NPC and speak in normal chat. They answer in their own voice, powered by a small language model that runs on our own server.

• More than 60 NPCs have their own personality, story and knowledge: what they sell, where to go and what is happening in their town.
• They notice you: your class, your gear, your wings. They remember you the next time you come by. Tell them your name, and they'll use it.
• A thinking bubble shows when an NPC is about to answer, and the reply also appears in your chat log for everyone nearby.
• Be friendly. Regulars earn the NPC's trust, and trust can be rewarded, sometimes with a one-of-a-kind item with its own story.
• Try to trick them, and they'll put you in your place. They live in MU, not in our world.
